Book Shelf: The Revolution of Ivy (The Book of Ivy #2) by Amy Engel

Ivy Westfall is beyond the fence and she is alone. Abandoned by her family and separated from Bishop Lattimer, Ivy must find a way to survive on her own in a land filled with countless dangers, both human and natural. She has traded a more civilized type of cruelty--forced marriages and murder plots--for the bare-knuckled brutality required to survive outside Westfall's borders.

But there is hope beyond the fence, as well. And when Bishop reappears in Ivy's life, she must decide if returning to Westfall to take a final stand for what she believes is right is worth losing everything she's fought for.

Review:

The Revolution of Ivy is the stunning follow up to Amy Engel’s debut novel The Book of Ivy, and manages to give its predecessor a run for its money with tantalising romance, high stakes and fantastic action.

After the events of the first book, Ivy Westfall finds herself lost and desolate; banished beyond the fence of Westfall and facing a harsh, unforgiving new environment. Having been torn from her family, and worst of all her husband Bishop, Ivy struggles in the barren world, but is surprised to learn of a society of people who have made the world outside the fence their home. Chances rise when Ivy is joined by Bishop on the outside and the two quickly settle into a routine with their new friends. Yet their happiness in an unexpected place is threatened when chaos erupts in Westfall and Ivy and Bishop must head back in order to stop the ones they love from killing each other and destroying Westfall forever……

After adoring The Book of Ivy so much last year, I was ecstatic to jump straight into The Revolution of Ivy and I’m thrilled to say Amy Engel doesn’t disappoint. The Revolution of Ivy is really rich in romance between Ivy and Bishop, something I completely gobbled up. They have so much to overcome, especially considering Ivy’s admissions at the end of the last book about her feelings for Bishop. And yet, both Ivy and Bishop managed to come a long way over the course of The Revolution of Ivy as a couple and really blossomed. There were some hard times, but Bishop’s fierce dedication and love for Ivy forced the couple to decide what they wanted and fight for it; something that made for really fabulous reading.

I’ve fallen so deeply in love with both Ivy and Bishop as characters since reading this duology. They make a great couple but I also enjoy them individually. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed seeing Ivy get out from under her family and find her own happiness amidst this dystopian world. She’s become an even more brilliant heroine to follow.

The Revolution of Ivy is steadily paced novel, faster at some moments than others, but is a really great follow-up that is sure to satisfy. I’m sad to say goodbye to Ivy and Bishop if this is in fact the end to their story but have loved following them, and certainly wouldn’t pass up the opportunity to re-visit the world within the series if the chance ever arose. I’m sure either Ash or Caleb have a story to tell! Highly recommend!

  1. So happy you enjoyed this one Rachel! I wasn't completely sold on the first book, but I'm curious as to how this will get wrapped up (in a duology nonetheless!)
